Charles Barkley calls out NBC over Michael Jordan controversy: ‘Bad look’
Charles Barkley criticized NBC for its handling of Michael Jordan's contributions to the network's NBA coverage. He specifically called out the network for conducting only one interview with Jordan and then splitting it into segments to be aired throughout the season, instead of arranging regular, new interviews. Barkley stated this approach makes NBC look "really bad" and "disingenuous."
The controversy stems from NBC's return to NBA broadcasting, where Michael Jordan was announced as a "special contributor." Many fans anticipated regular insights from the typically reclusive legend. However, his contribution consisted of a single sit-down interview with host Mike Tirico, which was edited into clips for a segment called "MJ: Insights to Excellence," focusing on broader topics rather than current NBA events.
Mike Tirico responded to the criticism, acknowledging that the single interview might not have met all expectations but defended it as better than having no Jordan content at all. He expressed hope for a future interview but confirmed no plans for a second one are currently in place.
Barkley's criticism is set against the backdrop of his own strained relationship with Jordan, following past critical comments about Jordan's ownership of the Charlotte Hornets. Barkley had previously expressed surprise at Jordan's decision to work with NBC.
