Philadelphia 76ers wing Paul George has been suspended for 25 games for violating the NBA's anti-drug program. He acknowledged the violation in a statement, taking full responsibility for taking an improper medication while seeking treatment for a mental health issue.

On ESPN's "Inside the NBA," analyst and former Sixer Charles Barkley questioned the suspension, suggesting that medications taken for mental health reasons should be treated as an exception by the league, calling the situation "fishy."

George, in his 16th NBA season, is averaging 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game this season and is shooting 38.2% from three-point range. His suspension comes as the 27-21 Sixers hold the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, a position bolstered by the play of rookie VJ Edgecombe, a healthy Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey's All-NBA caliber performance.
