Castro, Go set for PBA comeback in Commissioner’s Cup
Veteran guard JaysonCastro returns for his 17th season with TNT in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner's Cup, having recovered from a patellar tendon tear sustained in the previous season's semifinals. The 39-year-old, known as "the Blur," missed the entire Philippine Cup but is expected to provide leadership to a backcourt featuring Rey Nambatac and Jordan Heading. TNT has placed Poy Erram on the injury/reserved list and is considered an early championship favorite after acquiring import Bol Bol.
Barangay Ginebra has added size to its frontcourt with the return of 6-7 big man Isaac Go, who has been out with a torn ACL. His presence is crucial as the Commissioner's Cup features imports with no height restrictions. Ginebra will continue with resident import Justin Brownlee, and recent acquisition Kemark Cariño is on the final roster, though coach Tim Cone indicates no rush to utilize him.
Terrafirma Dyip will be without young guard Mark Nonoy and forward Louie Sangalang for the upcoming conference. Nonoy, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 draft, averaged 11.7 points and 5.6 assists in the Philippine Cup, while Sangalang averaged 12 points. Meanwhile, top rookie pick GeoChiu is set to make his PBA debut after fulfilling his MPBL obligations with the Abra Weavers.
