Boye to the rescue as Alaves snatch draw in four-goal thriller against Girona

Deportivo Alavés drew 2-2 with Girona, a result that moves Alavés three points clear of the LaLiga relegation zone, while Girona extended their strong recent form, having lost only one of their last eight league matches.

The match began quietly but competitively before Alavés took an early lead. A major error from Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who failed to deal with Yusi's cross, allowed Lucas Boyé to score a simple tap-in. Alavés nearly doubled their advantage soon after, but Toni Martínez blasted over after being put through by Daley Blind's mistake. Girona's first real chance came from Viktor Tsygankov around the 15-minute mark.

After a period with little action, Girona equalized around the half-hour mark. A corner was headed on by Axel Witsel at the near post and tapped in at the far post by an unmarked Vladyslav Vanat. Girona grew into the game, with Bryan Gil controlling midfield and Iván Martín going close, as the visitors finished the first half strongly.

Alavés started the second half aggressively, with early chances for Youssef En-Nesyri and Pablo Ibáñez. Ibáñez's effort appeared to injure Gazzaniga, who required treatment but continued. Alavés maintained pressure but remained vulnerable to long balls and struggled whenever Bryan Gil was on the ball for Girona.

Girona's next attempts came in the 69th minute with quick shots from Azzedine Ounahi and Witsel. Shortly after, Ounahi played a superb pass that split the Alavés defense, allowing Tsygankov to round goalkeeper Antonio Sivera and score into an empty net to give Girona a 2-1 lead.

In a frantic finish, Lucas Boyé scored his second goal of the game, heading in brilliantly from Víctor Parada's cross in the 89th minute to secure a 2-2 draw for Alavés. Despite the late equalizer, Alavés have won only one of their last six LaLiga meetings against Girona.
