Bol Scores 50 to Lift Tropang 5G Over Titan Ultra in Thrilling Win
Bol Bol delivered an unforgettable performance, scoring 50 points to lead TNT to a dramatic 97-92 comeback victory over Titan Ultra on Saturday in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center II in Montalban.
With South Sudan Basketball Federation president Luol Deng in the stands, the former NBA prospect took control when it mattered most. Bol exploded for 14 points in the fourth quarter, fueling TNT’s rally after they had trailed 78-73 late in the game.
The pivotal moment came during a 12-0 run, with Bol contributing 10 of those points, turning the game around and giving the Tropang 5G an 85-78 lead with just under five minutes remaining. From that point, TNT never relinquished the advantage.
Veterans Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Roger Pogoy, and Jayson Castro also stepped up in the clutch, helping TNT maintain its lead and seal its third straight win, improving to 5-2 and moving into solo fourth place.
Bol finished with a dominant stat line: 50 points on 21-of-34 shooting, 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 6 blocks, leading the way for TNT in a game where they played without Calvin Oftana, who was ejected early for an F2 infraction.
Head coach Chot Reyes acknowledged the heavy burden on Bol’s shoulders, especially with key players like Jordan Heading sidelined due to injury and some usual contributors struggling.
“We had to rely heavily on Bol because we were missing some of our main guys,” Reyes said, noting the absence of Heading and the off night from others.
Rey Nambatac was the only other TNT player to reach double figures, contributing 12 points. However, the scoring was well-balanced, with 10 players getting on the scoreboard.
Despite the win, Reyes emphasized that TNT still has areas to improve as they head into a challenging stretch of games.
“We’ll need to level up even more,” Reyes stated. “The way we’ve been playing may not be enough against the tougher teams coming up, especially in our final games.”
TNT now turns its attention to Converge (2-5) on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, looking to strengthen its position for a Top Four finish.
For Titan Ultra, the loss was another tough blow, despite strong performances from Michael Gilmore, who posted 33 points and 15 rebounds, and Joshua Munzon, who added 21 points. Titan Ultra drops to 2-5, unable to close out another competitive game.
