Black Bears take act to PBA
The Macau Black Bears Sports Club will join the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as a special guest team for the upcoming Commissioner's Cup, which begins on March 11. This agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement signed in Macau on Friday between PBA officials and the Black Bears' management.
The signing ceremony involved PBA board vice chairman Alfrancis Chua and commissioner Willie Marcial meeting with the Black Bears' leadership, including president Lukas Peng. This marks the third instance of a foreign guest team participating in the PBA Commissioner's Cup, following the Bay Area Dragons in Season 47 and Hong Kong Eastern in Season 48.
Commissioner Willie Marcial stated that the Black Bears will receive the same concessions previously granted to the Bay Area Dragons and Hong Kong Eastern teams. The Macau Black Bears are an established club in Asian basketball, having previously played in the now-defunct ASEAN Basketball League and currently competing in the East Asia Super League and the Asian Tournament.
Key players for the team include prolific point guard Damian Chongqui, Omari Peek-Green, Phoenix Shackelford, and 7-foot-6 center Sam Deguara. The team is coached by Garrett Kelly.
