Batang Kankaloo rain threes, crush Marlins

Caloocan overwhelmed Sarangani 10ACT with a barrage of three-pointers, rolling to a dominant 113-83 victory on Friday in the 2026 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season at One Arena Cainta in Rizal.

The Batang Kankaloo erupted from beyond the arc, converting 19 of their 41 three-point attempts behind a scorching shooting performance led by Jeff Manday. The offensive outburst helped Caloocan build a massive 39-point lead, 107-68, before cruising to its fourth consecutive victory.

The win improved Caloocan's record to 17-2 in the round-robin elimination phase of the 26-team tournament.

Manday, one of the team's prized recruits from Bacolod City, matched his season high with 10 three-pointers en route to a 30-point explosion. The 6-foot combo guard also added four rebounds and two assists in just 17 minutes and 23 seconds of action.

"I've been doing this (shooting 3s) in practice," said Manday. "It's part of my preparations every day."

Homegrown talents Irven Palencia and Joseph Manlangit also provided key support. Palencia finished with 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists, while Manlangit contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Jeramer Cabanag added 11 points and two rebounds.

Sarangani fell to 4-17 despite strong efforts from Leland Estacio, who led the team with 18 points. Danny Marilao recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while Migs Pascual added 12 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Alex Desoyo chipped in 11 points, seven assists, and two steals.

In the nightcap, Valenzuela City kept its North Division playoff hopes alive after defeating Bulacan, 87-80.

JR Olegario led the Darkhorse with 24 points, three assists, and two rebounds, while Lester Reyes added 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Jay Collado nearly posted a triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Angelo Obuyes contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

The loss dropped Bulacan to 5-14, putting the Kuyas in danger of missing the play-in tournament for teams ranked seventh to 10th after the elimination round.

MPBL action continues Saturday at the Alonte Sports Arena with a triple-header highlighted by the matchup between streaking teams Abra Solid North and Binan Tatak Gel at 7 p.m.

Defending champion Abra enters the game with a 15-game winning streak and a 17-1 record, while Binan carries a 13-game run and a 16-3 mark.

The Weavers will be led by reigning MVP Dave Ildefonso, former Korean Basketball League player Jake Figueroa, and 2025 Rookie of the Year Raven Gonzales, while Binan will rely on Nic Cabanero, Kenny Roger Rocacurva, and Carlo Lastimosa.

The day's other matchups feature Negros against Ilagan Isabela at 3 p.m., followed by Meycauayan Marilao versus Parañaque at 5 p.m.
