On February 21, in an NBA regular-season game, the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Los Angeles Clippers 125-122.

With the Clippers trailing 115-118 by three points and less than two minutes remaining, Bennedict Mathurin drove to the basket in an attempt to cut the deficit. However, Austin Reaves had set his position in advance and drew an offensive foul, buying the Lakers a brief breather.

Reaves had previously tried to draw another offensive foul that was not called. Lakers head coach JJ Redick believed that if that call had gone the Lakers’ way, it would have been a game-deciding play.

“I think that offensive foul drawn was a key play of the game,” Redick said after the victory. “And frankly, the second one that should’ve been called — wasn’t — would’ve been the play of the game… given the situation, that would’ve been a huge play.”

In 33 minutes of action, Reaves posted 29 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. He finished 9-of-15 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range, and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

“He was incredible tonight,” Redick stated. “Outside of the two turnovers, and a third one in traffic, he had an extremely efficient game.”
