Match Info
Wigan Athletic returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Exeter City at the DW Stadium in English Football League One. Two goals in the space of ten first-half minutes set the Latics on their way to a much-needed three points, easing any lingering relegation concerns. Wigan started brightly and were rewarded with an opening goal from a corner, nodded in at the back post. They doubled their lead shortly after with a fine individual effort, cutting in from the left and firing into the bottom corner. Exeter City improved in the second half but found the Wigan defense in no mood to concede, with the home goalkeeper rarely tested. The result lifts Wigan into a more secure mid-table position, while Exeter's inconsistent away form continues to hamper their progress. The Wigan manager was pleased with his team's professional performance, and the Exeter coach admitted his side started too slowly.
