TelOne FC and Highlanders Share Points in Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League Goalless Draw
Gweru, Zimbabwe – May 30, 2026 – TelOne FC and Highlanders played out a goalless draw at the Gweru Sports Club in a match that lacked clear-cut opportunities but was full of midfield battles. The result does little to change the standings for either side.
Match Report
Highlanders, traditionally one of Zimbabwe’s top clubs, began the match with possession but struggled to break through a determined TelOne defence. TelOne, managed by former Warriors international Alois Masepe, set up to frustrate and hit on the counter. The home side created the first chance in the 16th minute, but midfielder Tanaka Chikwata fired wide.
Highlanders’ best opportunity came just before half-time when striker Prince Dube latched onto a long ball but saw his shot saved by TelOne goalkeeper Ephraim Mazarura. The second half was even tighter, with both sides cancelling each other out in midfield.
Standout Defenders
- TelOne’s captain Butholezwe Ncube made several key clearances and was solid in the air.
- Highlanders centre-back Peter Mudihara won every duel and marshalled the backline effectively.
Post-Match Reactions
TelOne coach Alois Masepe said, “We wanted three points but against a team like Highlanders, a clean sheet is valuable. The boys worked hard.” Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito admitted his team lacked creativity, saying, “We need to be sharper in the final third. This is a point gained away from home, but we expect more.”
Highlanders remain 6th in the league, while TelOne stay 14th, just above the relegation zone.
