Date: 25 July 2026 | Competition: UEFA Women's Champions League – Qualifying Round

KI Klaksvikar’s women’s team delivered a commanding performance at home, defeating Zimbru Chisinau 4–1 on a warm July evening in the Faroe Islands. The result puts the Faroese champions in a strong position as they look to advance to the next stage of the Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

Match Overview

From the opening whistle, KI Klaksvikar pressed high and played with intensity, forcing Zimbru into early errors. The home side’s tactical discipline and physical edge proved too much for the Moldovan visitors, who struggled to cope with the pace of the attack.

Key Moments

• 12th minute: KI Klaksvikar opened the scoring through a well-worked corner kick, with defender Maria Joensen heading home from close range.
• 34th minute: A swift counterattack doubled the lead. Forward Anna Højgaard latched onto a through ball and slotted past the Zimbru goalkeeper.
• 58th minute: Zimbru pulled one back via a penalty, converted by captain Elena Ciorba, briefly raising hopes of a comeback.
• 72nd minute: KI restored the two-goal cushion with a long-range strike from midfielder Sólvá á Torkilsheyggi.
• 88th minute: Substitute Lea Olsen sealed the win with a close-range finish after a goalmouth scramble.

Tactical Story

KI Klaksvikar set up in a 4-3-3 formation that allowed them to dominate the midfield and stretch Zimbru’s defense. The full-backs pushed high, and the wide attackers cut inside to create overloads. Zimbru’s 4-4-2 defensive shape held firm in the first half-hour but cracked under repeated pressure. The Moldovan side lacked the composure to build sustained attacks, relying mostly on set pieces and long balls.

Standout Players

• Anna Højgaard (KI): A constant threat, her goal and assist were crucial to the win.
• Sólvá á Torkilsheyggi (KI): Dominated the midfield and scored a stunning goal from distance.
• Elena Ciorba (Zimbru): Showed leadership and calmly converted the penalty, but lacked support.

Season Impact

This victory gives KI Klaksvikar momentum in the qualifying round. They will need to maintain this form if they are to progress past the next opponent. Zimbru Chisinau now face a must-win situation in their remaining group matches, having lost their opening fixture.
