Omonia Nicosia edged past Gibraltar's Lincoln Red Imps with a slim 1-0 victory in their UEFA Europa League qualifying first leg at the GSP Stadium. Omonia dominate possession but lack cutting edge

For Omonia, Ilie Ianev was the hero with the winning goal, but midfielder Mihail Aleksandrov was just as influential, controlling the flow of the game from central areas. Lincoln's Roy Chipolina, equally at home marshalling the defence as driving forward, showed exactly why he remains an important figure for the club, even in defeat.

Omonia take a 1-0 advantage to Victoria Stadium for the second leg next week. Though the lead is slender, it is a positive result, and the Cypriot side will feel confident of defending it against a side that created only limited chances tonight. Lincoln Red Imps will need a much more adventurous display in front of their own supporters, but they have seen over 90 minutes that Omonia are difficult to break down.
