Team Info

Macclesfield Town was a professional football club with a long history, last competing in the English non-league system within the Conference North division. The Silkmen, as they were affectionately known, played their home games at Moss Rose, a traditional ground that had been their home since 1891. Founded in 1874, the club spent most of its existence in non-league football before a historic promotion to the Football League in 1997 under manager Sammy McIlroy. Their time in the EFL included a famous run to the fourth round of the FA Cup in the 1990s. However, the club's later years were defined by severe and persistent financial troubles, leading to multiple points deductions, relegations, and ultimately expulsion from the National League in 2020. The club was liquidated later that year, a devastating blow to its loyal fan base and the local community. The story of Macclesfield Town serves as a cautionary tale in football, ending a 146-year history.
