Team Info

AFC Bournemouth Under-21s is the development squad of the Premier League's AFC Bournemouth, competing in the English U21 Professional Development League 2. Based at the club's training complex, the team serves as the crucial bridge between the academy and the first team. The primary purpose of the U21 side is player development, not silverware, with matches played at various training grounds and smaller stadiums. The team was formed as part of the club's Category 2 academy system, designed to nurture the next generation of Cherries talent. Its history is written in the progression of individuals rather than collective trophies, with success measured by players like David Brooks and Philip Billing who honed their skills at this level before breaking into the senior setup. The current squad is a mix of highly-touted teenagers and older professionals regaining match fitness, all under the guidance of a dedicated development coach. Recent campaigns in the Professional Development League see the young Cherries facing off against rivals like Bristol City and Cardiff City, with results often secondary to performance metrics and tactical education. The atmosphere at matches is focused and professional, attended by scouts, coaches, and families. Bournemouth U21s is an essential engine room for the club's future, tasked with producing homegrown players ready for the demands of top-flight football.
