Malmö FF 2 – 3 Västerås SK FK
Sweden Allsvenskan | 24 May 2026, 22:30

Match Overview

In one of the biggest shocks of the Allsvenskan season, basement side Västerås SK FK stunned defending champions Malmö FF at Eleda Stadion. A dramatic second-half comeback saw the visitors overturn a 2-0 deficit to claim a famous 3-2 victory, leaving Malmö’s title defence in tatters.

First Half: Malmö Dominate but Fail to Kill the Game

Malmö started exactly as expected—dominant. Isaac Kiese Thelin bullied the Västerås defence, and in the 22nd minute, he headed home a corner to make it 1-0. Eight minutes later, Anders Christiansen doubled the lead with a crisp half-volley from the edge of the box. At 2-0, the home fans were already celebrating an easy win.

Yet Västerås refused to fold. They created two half-chances before the break, with striker Samuel Asoma firing just over the bar. Malmö, however, looked complacent.

Second Half: The Great Escape

Whatever Västerås coach Christer Mattiasson said at halftime worked. The visitors came out with intensity and pulled a goal back in the 51st minute through Filip Tronét, who smashed home from a tight angle after a defensive mix-up. The goal visibly shook Malmö.

In the 67th minute, the unthinkable happened. A quick throw-in caught Malmö’s backline flat-footed, and Samuel Asoma slotted the equaliser. The stadium fell silent. Then, in the 81st minute, substitute Lucas Österberg completed the turnaround, tapping in from a low cross after a brilliant counter-attack.

Malmö threw everyone forward in stoppage time but could not break down a heroic Västerås defence.

Standout Performers

  • Samuel Asoma (Västerås) – Scored one, assisted another, and led the press.
  • Filip Tronét (Västerås) – The goal that sparked the comeback.
  • Lucas Österberg (Västerås) – Super sub who scored the winner.

Table Impact

Malmö FF now sit 4th, six points behind league leaders Djurgården with nine games left. Västerås remain bottom but cut the gap to safety to five points, giving them a lifeline in the relegation fight.
