Växjö Women Knock Husqvarna Out of the Swedish Women's Cup

Växjö Women advanced in the Sweden Women's Cup with a professional 3-1 win away to Husqvarna Women, turning a scrappy cup tie into a comfortable evening's work. A three-goal burst proved decisive, and although the home side pulled one back and produced a spirited closing spell, Växjö's greater quality in the final third carried them through.

Match Overview

Cup football rewards different qualities than league play: concentration, set-piece discipline, and the ability to survive awkward moments on unfamiliar pitches. Husqvarna Women embraced that challenge, setting up to frustrate a Växjö side that arrived as clear favourites.

For a while, the plan worked. The hosts defended in numbers, closed down space quickly and looked to spring forward on the break. But Växjö's patience and superior technical level gradually told, and once the opening goal went in, the match tilted firmly in their direction.

How the Tie Was Won

• Breakthrough: Växjö open the scoring after a period of patient build-up, finally finding a gap in a crowded defensive block.
• Momentum: A quick second goal follows as Husqvarna push forward and are caught on the break.
• Husqvarna's reply: The home side halve the deficit with a well-taken goal that gives the tie a fresh edge.
• Sealing it: Växjö restore the two-goal cushion, a goal that settles the contest and secures progression.

Tactical Story

Husqvarna's low defensive block forced Växjö to attack patiently and use width to stretch the play. The visitors' solution was to circulate the ball quickly across the back line, draw the block to one side, and then switch into space on the opposite flank — a pattern that eventually created the opening goal.

Because Husqvarna had to commit players forward after falling behind, the second half became more open. That suited Växjö perfectly, giving their quicker attackers room to run into and forcing the home team to defend long stretches of the game in transition. The third goal arrived from precisely such a moment.

Standout Performers

Växjö's midfield controlled the rhythm of the game, knowing when to speed things up and when to keep possession and frustrate their opponents. The wide players were consistently threatening, producing the crosses and cut-backs that led to the goals.

Husqvarna's goalkeeper kept the scoreline respectable with a series of saves, and the goal scorer will remember a well-taken finish in what was, by any measure, a difficult cup assignment against higher-ranked opposition.

What the Cup Run Means

Knockout progress keeps Växjö's cup ambitions alive and adds a fixture to an already busy calendar — but the confidence gained from an away win in a competition where one bad day ends a season is worth a great deal. Husqvarna exit with credit, having pushed their opponents further than the final scoreline might suggest.

The Sweden Women's Cup has become a genuine showcase for the depth of the women's game in the country, allowing clubs from different tiers to test themselves against elite opposition. Performances like Husqvarna's are exactly why the format matters.

Next Up

Växjö will await the draw knowing that the standard of opposition rises with every round, while Husqvarna return to league duties with a point to prove and a performance to build on.
