SV VELO 0 – 5 Sparta Rotterdam | International Club Friendly | 4 July 2026
Sparta Rotterdam put on a dominant display in their pre-season friendly against SV VELO, cruising to a 5-0 victory on Saturday evening. The Eredivisie side controlled the match from start to finish, using the game to fine-tune tactics and build match fitness.
First Half Masterclass
Sparta wasted no time asserting their superiority. They opened the scoring in the 12th minute when a swift passing move carved open the VELO defence. By the 35th minute, the visitors had added two more goals, both coming from set pieces that exposed a lack of organisation from the home side.
VELO, playing in the lower tiers of Dutch football, struggled to contain Sparta’s movement and pace. Their best chance of the half came from a long-range effort that sailed just wide.
Second Half – No Let-Up
Sparta continued to dominate after the break, rotating players while maintaining intensity. Two further goals in the final 20 minutes completed the rout, with Sparta’s substitutes eager to impress. VELO’s goalkeeper made several fine saves to keep the score from becoming even more lopsided.
What the Friendly Means
For Sparta Rotterdam, this match is part of a carefully planned pre-season schedule. Coach could test different formations and give fringe players game time. The clean sheet will also please the defensive coaches.
SV VELO gain experience and exposure, and despite the heavy loss, the match provides a valuable learning experience for their squad. The club will now focus on their own league preparations.
Sparta Rotterdam’s next friendly is against Belgian side KRC Genk, while VELO face a local derby against AFC Ajax Amateurs.
