RCD Mallorca 1–1 Villarreal CF
Spanish La Liga – 10 May 2026
RCD Mallorca and Villarreal CF shared the spoils at the Estadi de Son Moix after an absorbing 1-1 draw that had little bearing on the upper reaches of the La Liga table but plenty of entertainment for the home crowd. Both teams struck in a frantic opening 20 minutes and then cancelled each other out for the remainder of the contest.
Fast Start
Mallorca took an early lead in the 9th minute when striker Vedat Muriqi rose highest to meet a Dani Rodríguez corner, powering a header past Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen. The goal sparked Villarreal into life, and they were level just eight minutes later. A quick combination between Álex Baena and Yeremy Pino released Nicolas Jackson, who rounded Mallorca goalkeeper Dominik Greif and slotted into an empty net from a tight angle.
Midfield Battle
The rest of the first half saw both sides trade spells of possession, but clear-cut chances were scarce. Mallorca’s Samú Costa and Villarreal’s Dani Parejo engaged in a fierce midfield duel, with each player picking up a yellow card before halftime. The second half was even more tactical, with both managers making early substitutions to try to seize control.
Second-Half Chances
Mallorca thought they had won it in the 78th minute when substitute Ángel Rodríguez headed goalwards, only to see Jörgensen produce a stunning reflex save. At the other end, Greif denied José Luis Morales with an equally impressive stop in the 84th minute. The draw was ultimately a fair reflection of a well-contested match.
Standout Performer
Mallorca’s centre-back Antonio Raíllo was immense, making nine clearances and winning six aerial duels. His leadership helped keep Villarreal’s front line largely quiet after the early equaliser.
Table Impact
The point left Mallorca 13th in La Liga, eight points clear of the relegation zone with four matches remaining, virtually securing their top-flight status for another season. Villarreal stayed 6th, now five points behind 5th-placed Real Sociedad in the race for European qualification.
