Scottish League Two: The Foundation of the SPFL

Scottish League Two is the fourth and lowest tier of the Scottish Professional Football League, representing the foundational level of the national league system. League Format and the Road to Promotion

Comprising 10 teams, the League Two season follows a 36-game schedule where each club plays its opponents four times. The Play-Off System and Relegation

The competition for a second promotion spot is intense. The clubs finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th enter a play-off mini-tournament. The 4th-placed team faces the 3rd-placed team in a semi-final, with the winner taking on the 2nd-placed team in a two-legged final. The champion of this play-off then earns the right to challenge the 9th-placed team from League One for a place in the third tier. Unlike the divisions above, there is no automatic relegation from League Two to the Highland or Lowland Leagues. However, the club finishing last must defend its SPFL status in a pyramid play-off against the winner of a match between the champions of the Highland League and Lowland League, making the fight to avoid last place absolutely critical.
