USV Iasi 2-1 ACS FC Bacau II: Late Winner Settles Tight Liga III Contest

USV Iasi claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over ACS FC Bacau II in Romanian Liga III on 19 September 2026, with a late goal deciding a match that remained balanced for long periods. The hosts showed patience and composure in possession, eventually breaking down a resilient Bacau II side that had threatened to take a point away from home.

Match overview

The opening exchanges were cautious, with both teams prioritising structure over risk. USV Iasi gradually gained the upper hand through their midfield rotations, and they took the lead midway through the first half when a well-placed shot from the edge of the area found the bottom corner. Bacau II responded well, pressing higher after the goal and finding an equaliser before half-time through a quick counter-attack.

The second half was more open. USV Iasi created the better chances, hitting the post and forcing two important saves from the Bacau II goalkeeper. The winning goal arrived in the closing stages, when the hosts worked the ball into the box and converted from close range. Bacau II pushed forward in search of another equaliser, but USV Iasi managed the final minutes intelligently to secure all three points.

Tactical story

USV Iasi’s victory was built on midfield control and patient circulation. They used their full-backs to stretch the Bacau II defence and repeatedly looked for cut-backs from the byline. Bacau II defended in a compact block and tried to spring counter-attacks through their quick forwards, which worked well for their equaliser. However, as the game wore on, the visitors’ defensive concentration dipped, and USV Iasi’s substitutes added fresh energy in the final third.

Standout players

The USV Iasi midfield duo dictated the rhythm of the match, winning loose balls and linking defence with attack. The match-winner showed excellent anticipation inside the box, while the goalkeeper made a crucial save at 1-1. For ACS FC Bacau II, the goalscorer was their most dangerous outlet, and their goalkeeper kept them in the contest until the late breakthrough.

Season impact

USV Iasi move forward with momentum after a result that highlights their ability to grind out close games. ACS FC Bacau II can take encouragement from a competitive away performance, but the late defeat leaves them with little to show for a disciplined effort. In the Liga III table, the three points could prove important as the season begins to take shape.
