CSM Targu Jiu 1-1 FC Drobeta Turnu Severin: Oltenia Derby Ends All Square

CSM Targu Jiu and FC Drobeta Turnu Severin shared the points in a 1-1 draw in Romanian Liga III on 19 September 2026, as a regional rivalry produced a tense and evenly matched encounter. Both teams had moments to win it, but neither could land the knockout blow in front of a committed crowd.

The match carried extra significance given the proximity of the two clubs, and the intensity on the pitch reflected that. CSM Targu Jiu wanted to assert home authority, while Drobeta Turnu Severin arrived determined to spoil the party and take something back to the Danube port city.

Match Overview

CSM Targu Jiu started brightly, controlling possession and looking to create openings through the middle. Their pressure eventually told when they took the lead, and for a spell the home side looked the more likely to add a second.

FC Drobeta Turnu Severin stayed in the game, though, and their equaliser changed the mood of the contest. After drawing level, the visitors defended with more confidence and threatened on the break. The final stages were stretched, with both teams searching for the winner, but the scoreline remained 1-1.

Key Moments

• CSM Targu Jiu breakthrough: The hosts opened the scoring after a period of sustained pressure, finishing neatly inside the penalty area.
• Drobeta Turnu Severin equaliser: The visitors responded with a determined attacking sequence and found the goal that levelled the match.
• Goalkeeping interventions: Both goalkeepers made crucial saves to keep the score level as the game opened up.
• Late pressure: Each side pushed for a winner in the closing minutes, but defensive concentration held firm.

Tactical Story

CSM Targu Jiu’s game plan was built on patient build-up and controlling the centre of the pitch. Their midfielders looked to feed the forwards between the lines, and the early goal came from exactly that kind of combination play. However, after scoring, they dropped slightly deeper than intended, inviting pressure.

FC Drobeta Turnu Severin adjusted well after conceding. They began to press more aggressively and used quick transitions to test the home defence. The equaliser was no accident; it came from a spell in which Drobeta Turnu Severin won more second balls and forced CSM Targu Jiu into rushed clearances.

Standout Performers

CSM Targu Jiu’s attacking players showed good link-up play, and the goalscorer was a constant threat before tiring in the later stages. The home defence was mostly solid but will review the equalising goal as a moment where the team lost its compact shape.

For FC Drobeta Turnu Severin, the midfield engine room deserved credit for turning the tide. The equaliser came from persistence, and the back line stood tall during late CSM pressure. The goalkeeper’s handling under crosses was particularly important in the final ten minutes.

What the Result Means

The draw gives both clubs a point in Romanian Liga III, but the mood will be mixed. CSM Targu Jiu will feel they should have converted home advantage into three points, especially after taking the lead. FC Drobeta Turnu Severin will view the result as a useful away point in a derby that could have gone either way.

With the season still developing, both teams will focus on consistency. CSM Targu Jiu need to manage games better after scoring, while Drobeta Turnu Severin can take confidence from their response and their ability to compete on the road against a local rival.
