PSV Eindhoven 1–3 Villarreal CF
International Club Friendly | 26 July 2026
Villarreal CF claimed an impressive 3–1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in a pre‑season friendly played at the Philips Stadion. The Spanish side’s fluid attacking play proved too much for the Eredivisie outfit, who offered sporadic threat but were ultimately outclassed.
Match Events
Villarreal took control early. In the 12th minute, Álex Baena delivered a corner that Gerard Moreno met with a glancing header into the far corner. PSV responded with spells of possession but struggled to penetrate Villarreal’s organised defence. The visitors doubled their lead in the 35th minute when Yeremy Pino latched onto a pass from Dani Parejo, drove into the box, and shot low past PSV goalkeeper Walter Benítez.
PSV pulled one back just before half‑time: winger Johan Bakayoko cut inside and unleashed a powerful strike that clipped the post before nestling in the net. The goal gave PSV hope, but Villarreal restored their two‑goal advantage in the 64th minute. Substitute Arnaut Danjuma finished a swift counter‑attack, slotting home after a perfect through ball from Parejo.
Second‑half Management
The remainder of the game saw PSV push forward, but Villarreal’s defence, led by Raúl Albiol, held firm. The home side’s best chance fell to Luuk de Jong, whose header was tipped over by Filip Jörgensen in the Villarreal goal. The result gives Villarreal a strong indication of their readiness for the La Liga season, while PSV will look to tighten up ahead of their Champions League qualifiers.
Standout Performers
- Dani Parejo: The experienced midfielder dictated play and provided two assists.
