Deportivo Saprissa/M/
Player Info
David Guzmán is a Costa Rican defensive midfielder known for his technical quality and passing ability, currently plying his trade for Deportivo Saprissa. A product of Saprissa's famed academy, he became a fan favorite before moving to MLS with the Portland Timbers in 2017, where he won the MLS Cup. He also had spells with Club Necaxa in Mexico before returning to his boyhood club. A regular for the Costa Rican national team, Guzmán has featured in CONCACAF Gold Cups and World Cup qualifiers. His honors include multiple Costa Rican league titles with Saprissa and an MLS Cup. Guzmán's game is built on his excellent first touch, vision, and ability to dictate tempo from a deep-lying position, often acting as the metronome for his team. While not the most physical midfielder, his intelligence and distribution are his key assets, making him a cultured presence in the center of the park.
