Mineros de Zacatecas 0-2 Leones Negros de la U. de G.: Visitors Claim Clean-Sheet Victory

Leones Negros de la Universidad de Guadalajara secured a composed 2-0 away win over Mineros de Zacatecas in Mexico Ascenso MX on Sunday, 25 October 2026. The visitors scored in key moments and defended their lead with maturity, leaving Mineros with a frustrating home defeat.

The match was decided by Leones Negros’ ability to convert their chances and control the spaces in front of their defense. Mineros had possession and territory at times, but they were unable to turn that into enough clear scoring opportunities.

Match overview

Leones Negros started with a patient approach, keeping their shape and waiting for openings rather than forcing the game. That strategy paid off when they took the lead, and the away side grew in confidence after scoring. Mineros tried to respond, but their attacking moves lacked the final pass needed to unlock a well-organized defense.

The second goal gave Leones Negros breathing room and forced Mineros to take more risks. The home side pushed players forward in search of a route back into the contest, but the visitors remained disciplined and protected their goalkeeper effectively through the closing stages.

Key moments

• Leones Negros take the lead: The opening goal gave the visitors control and forced Mineros to respond.
• Mineros push forward: The home side increased their tempo and looked for an equalizer, but clear chances remained limited.
• Second goal decides it: Leones Negros struck again to double their advantage and take firm control of the match.
• Late resistance: Mineros pressed late, but the visitors held firm to complete a valuable clean sheet.

Tactical story

Leones Negros delivered a textbook away performance: compact defensively, patient in possession, and ruthless when opportunities appeared. Their midfield worked hard to close down passing lanes, while the back line dealt with crosses and second balls effectively. The clean sheet was as important as the two goals.

Mineros de Zacatecas will feel they had enough of the ball to create more, but penetration was the issue. The home side’s best moments came from wide areas and set pieces, yet they struggled to sustain pressure inside the penalty box. Leones Negros’ ability to defend the central areas made the difference.

Standout performers

The Leones Negros defensive unit deserved much of the credit for the result, limiting Mineros to hopeful efforts rather than clear chances. The midfield also played a crucial role in controlling the rhythm of the game and supporting the attack when space opened up. For Mineros, the effort was there, but the team lacked the sharpness needed in the final third.

What the result means

Leones Negros de la U. de G. take three important points from a difficult away fixture and strengthen their position in the Ascenso MX table. Mineros de Zacatecas remain with work to do after a home defeat, and their next match will be an opportunity to rediscover their attacking rhythm. In a division where away wins are often hard to come by, this was a result Leones Negros will value highly.
