Match Info

Suwon Samsung Bluewings survived a late scare to edge Chungbuk Cheongju FC 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at Cheongju Stadium. The match swung from end to end, with Suwon eventually claiming all three points after a frenetic second half that kept supporters on the edge of their seats.

Fast start from Suwon

The Bluewings wasted little time asserting themselves. A well-worked move down the right saw winger Kim Tae-hwan cut inside and curl a shot into the far corner inside the first ten minutes. Suwon doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when forward Park Sang-hyun headed home from a corner, giving the visitors a commanding position at the break.

Cheongju fight back

Cheongju emerged for the second half with renewed energy. They pulled one back in the 54th minute through a powerful strike from midfielder Son Seok-yong after a defensive mix-up in the Suwon box. The home side then equalised fifteen minutes later when Lee Jung-hoon volleyed in from close range, sending the home crowd into raptures and turning the match on its head.

Winning moment

With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Suwon showed their experience. In the 84th minute, substitute Han Seok-jong latched onto a through ball and coolly slotted past the advancing goalkeeper to seal a dramatic victory. Cheongju pushed forward in search of another equaliser, but Suwon held firm to take the points.

Why it mattered

The win provides a significant boost to Suwon Samsung Bluewings' ambitions of climbing the K League 2 table. For Chungbuk Cheongju, the performance showed plenty of character, but the defensive lapses proved costly. Both teams will take lessons from an entertaining encounter that ebbed and flowed from start to finish.
