Tactical Story

Carshalton's attacking play was built on width and quick combinations. Their wingers repeatedly isolated Maldon's full-backs, and their first and third goals came from wide areas. Maldon Tiptree's threat came primarily from set pieces and direct play. Their equalisers both originated from dead-ball situations, and they caused problems with their physical presence in the box. In open play, they struggled to contain Carshalton's movement, but their resilience and fighting spirit kept them in the game until the final minutes. The late winner was a cruel blow for a team that had twice fought back.

Their central midfielder also controlled the tempo and provided the assist for the late winner. For Maldon Tiptree, the centre-back who scored the first equaliser was their most imposing player, while the goalkeeper made several sharp saves to keep the score down.
