Wealdstone kicked off their pre‑season campaign in style with a hard‑fought 1‑0 victory over League Two side AFC Wimbledon at Grosvenor Vale. The only goal of the game arrived in the 58th minute when forward Alex Reid latched onto a through‑ball from Jack Cook and slotted calmly past the visiting goalkeeper.

The match was a physical and competitive affair typical of a local derby‑style friendly, with both managers using the fixture to test fitness and cohesion. AFC Wimbledon had the better of possession in the first half but failed to trouble the home defence, while Wealdstone grew into the game after the break.

“It’s always good to get a win, especially against a team from a higher division,” said Wealdstone manager Stuart Maynard. “The lads showed great character and we’re building nicely towards the new season.”

For AFC Wimbledon, it was a wake‑up call ahead of their League Two campaign. Manager Johnnie Jackson made eight changes at half‑time, but his side could not find an equaliser despite a late flurry of corners. The result highlights the competitive nature of pre‑season football as both teams continue to sharpen their edge before competitive action begins.

The match was played in front of a lively crowd of around 1,800, many of whom welcomed the return of live football after the summer break.
