Solihull Moors 1–1 Burton Albion
International Club Friendly – 29 July 2026
Solihull Moors and Burton Albion played out an entertaining 1‑1 draw at the ARMCO Arena, with both sides showing flashes of quality in a competitive pre‑season encounter. The home side took the lead in the 22nd minute through striker Danny Newton, who finished clinically from a Josh Kelly assist.
Burton responded well and dominated the second half, finally levelling in the 67th minute when substitute Mason Bennett fired home from the edge of the box after a neat passing move. Both teams introduced a raft of substitutes throughout the game, with managers using the opportunity to give minutes to fringe players and triallists.
Solihull Moors’ manager Andy Whing praised his team’s defensive organisation: “We restricted a good League One side to very few clear chances. To take the lead and hold it for long periods shows our progress.” Burton boss Gary Rowett, meanwhile, was satisfied with the fitness levels but admitted his side need to be more clinical. “We had enough of the ball to win the game, but we didn’t make it count. That’s what friendlies are for – to iron out these issues.”
The draw extends both teams’ unbeaten starts to pre‑season and provides useful momentum ahead of their respective league campaigns in the National League and League One.
