Halifax Town edged Chesterfield 3‑2 in a thrilling pre‑season friendly at The Shay on Wednesday night. The match, played in front of a healthy crowd, showcased end‑to‑end action and gave both managers plenty to ponder before the National League season begins.

Fast start for the Shaymen

Halifax took the game to their visitors from the first whistle. Winger Millie Allen opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the box. But Halifax showed character to win it: substitute Joe Sbarra latched onto a loose ball in the box and fired high into the net in the 78th minute.
