Match Info
Colombia Women reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time in their history with a 1-0 win over Jamaica Women at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on August 8th. The only goal of the match came from a stunning long-range strike by Catalina Usme in the 51st minute, breaking Jamaica's resilient defense. Jamaica, who had conceded only one goal in the tournament prior to this match, defended bravely once again, with Rebecca Spencer making several good saves. However, they offered little threat going forward, and Colombia's winner was a moment of individual brilliance that proved the difference. Usme collected the ball outside the box and unleashed a powerful, dipping shot that flew into the top corner. Colombia managed the game well thereafter, seeing out the victory to create history for South American football. Colombia's coach Nelson Abadía dedicated the win to the people of Colombia, while Jamaica's Lorne Donaldson praised his team's incredible tournament. Colombia's starting XI featured Pérez, C. Arias, Carabali, D. Arias, Vanegas, Bedoya, Montoya, Santos, Caicedo, Ramírez, and Usme.
