Crewe Alexandra were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by a determined York City side at the Mornflake Stadium on Saturday. Crewe in control, but lacking a cutting edge

For the remainder of the match, York’s two centre-backs were immense, winning every aerial duel and throwing their bodies in front of shots. Crewe’s final statistics will show over 65% possession and 18 shots, but a lack of composure in the box meant only four forced the keeper into meaningful action.

Mixed feelings for both managers

Crewe manager will see this as two points dropped, especially given their territorial superiority. Yet the performance showed plenty of positives, with their young midfielders controlling the game’s rhythm against a physical York side. For York, this was a benchmark display; they came to a difficult venue, did not get overawed, and took home a point that could prove vital in the relegation skirmishes they expect to be part of.
