Herediano and Cartagines Play Out Stalemate in Goalless Draw
Heredia, Costa Rica – May 10, 2026 – CS Herediano and CS Cartagines shared the spoils in a tense 0-0 draw at Estadio Nacional, a result that did little to separate the two sides in the Costa Rica Primera División standings. Neither team could find the breakthrough in a match defined by defensive discipline and missed opportunities.
Home side Herediano controlled possession for large spells, but Cartagines’ organized backline, marshaled by veteran defender Kevin Álvarez, kept the hosts at bay. The best chance of the first half fell to Herediano striker Hugo Sánchez, who fired over the bar from close range after a corner.
Second‑Half Pressure
The tempo increased after the interval, with Herediano pushing forward aggressively. Midfielder Esteban Ramírez tested Cartagines goalkeeper Luis García with a dipping long-range effort in the 58th minute, but García was equal to it. At the other end, Cartagines almost snatched a late winner when substitute Paolo Jiménez struck the post with a curling shot in the 84th minute.
The draw keeps Herediano in third place in the aggregate table, while Cartagines remains seventh. Both sides will look to convert their performances into wins in the coming matchdays.
