Match Info
Unión Española ended their Copa Sudamericana campaign on a high note with a resounding 4-0 thrashing of Gualberto Villarroel Deportivo San José on May 30, 2025. The Chilean side, already eliminated, played with freedom and attacking flair, racing into a 3-0 lead by halftime with a devastating display of finishing. They added a fourth goal late in the second half to complete the rout, with their forwards linking up superbly throughout the match. For San José, the heavy defeat was a disappointing end to a campaign that had promised so much after their famous win over Fluminense, as they finished bottom of the group. The result had no bearing on the qualification picture but served as a confidence booster for Unión Española heading back into domestic competition. The Unión Española coach was pleased his team showed pride, while the San José manager acknowledged a difficult night defensively. Unión Española's attacking quartet was in scintillating form.
