Botafogo Dominate Caracas with Convincing 3-1 Away Win in Copa Sudamericana
Botafogo took a major step toward qualifying for the knockout stage of the CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Caracas FC at the Estadio Olímpico de la UCV. The Brazilian side, backed by a strong travelling contingent, showed their quality from the opening whistle and never looked back.
The visitors opened the scoring after just 12 minutes. A neat interchange between Eduardo and Júnior Santos saw the latter curl a precise shot into the far corner. Caracas struggled to contain Botafogo’s fluid attack, and the lead was doubled in the 34th minute when a corner was met by Victor Cuesta, who headed home unchallenged.
Caracas Pull One Back but Botafogo Restore Order
The home side managed to reduce the deficit just before halftime. A defensive mix‑up in the Botafogo box allowed Daniel Rivero to slot in from close range, giving the Venezuelan champions a lifeline. Caracas came out with renewed energy after the break, pressing high and creating a few half‑chances, but Botafogo’s experience told.
The decisive blow came in the 73rd minute when substitute Carlos Alberto latched onto a through ball and finished coolly to make it 3-1. From that point, Botafogo controlled the tempo and saw out the match without serious alarm.
The win moves Botafogo to the top of their group, while Caracas face an uphill battle to progress. The Brazilian club’s blend of defensive solidity and attacking flair makes them a serious contender for the title this season.
