Vasco da Gama Women opened their Brazil W L2 campaign in emphatic fashion on 8 September 2026, sweeping aside CA Piauiense (W) with a commanding 4-0 victory at home. The result underlined Vasco's promotion ambitions and highlighted the gulf in sharpness between the two sides on the day.

Match Overview

Playing in front of a supportive home crowd, Vasco da Gama Women controlled proceedings from the first whistle. The Rio de Janeiro-based side pressed high, moved the ball quickly through midfield, and never allowed CA Piauiense to settle into any rhythm. By full-time, the scoreboard read a comfortable 4-0, with Vasco's attacking quality proving too much for the visitors from Piauí to handle.

Key Moments

• Early breakthrough: Vasco found the net inside the opening exchanges, settling any early nerves and forcing Piauiense onto the back foot.
• Second goal before half-time: A well-worked team move doubled the lead, giving the hosts full control at the interval.
• Clinical second-half display: Vasco added two more goals after the break, showing patience and composure in front of goal.
• Clean sheet maintained: The defensive unit remained solid throughout, ensuring goalkeeper was rarely troubled.

Tactical Story

Vasco da Gama Women used width effectively, stretching the Piauiense defence and creating overloads in wide areas. Their full-backs pushed high, which allowed the midfielders to drift inside and link play with the forwards. Piauiense, largely reactive, struggled to sustain possession and often resorted to long balls that were comfortably dealt with by the Vasco backline.

The home side's intensity in pressing also disrupted Piauiense's build-up play. By winning the ball back quickly in advanced areas, Vasco repeatedly created scoring opportunities and never allowed their opponents to build any sustained pressure.

Standout Performers

While no official individual statistics were released, the collective performance stood out. Vasco's attacking unit was lively throughout, with the forward line combining well to stretch the defence. The midfield trio dictated tempo and covered ground effectively, while the centre-backs were commanding in duels and distribution alike.

For CA Piauiense (W), the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the scoreline respectable, while the defensive group worked hard to limit further damage in a difficult afternoon.

Season Impact

This 4-0 victory gives Vasco da Gama Women a perfect start to their Brazil W L2 campaign, with maximum points and a healthy goal difference. For CA Piauiense (W), there is plenty to work on, but the early calendar means there is time to recover and adjust before the next round of fixtures.

If Vasco can maintain this level of attacking intent and defensive organisation, they will be among the teams to watch this season. The result sends a clear message to the rest of the league: Vasco da Gama Women intend to be serious contenders.
