AS FAR Rabat Edge Wydad Casablanca 2-1 in Tense Botola Pro Derby

Match Date: June 14, 2026 | League: The Botola Pro

The Casablanca-Rabat rivalry delivered another classic at the Stade Moulay Hassan as AS FAR Rabat defeated storied rivals Wydad Casablanca 2-1 in front of a passionate crowd. The result kept AS FAR in the title hunt while denting Wydad's push for a top-three finish.

AS FAR started with intensity, pressing Wydad’s backline from the first whistle. Their pressure paid off in the 12th minute when left-back Youssef El Far overlapped and delivered a low cross that striker Abdelkader Boutayeb turned home from close range. Wydad struggled to find rhythm, with star playmaker Ismail El Haddad tightly marked throughout the first half.

Wydad equalised against the run of play just before half-time. A long ball over the top caught the AS FAR defence napping, and forward Soufiane Rahimi chested down and volleyed spectacularly into the top corner. The goal injected energy into Wydad, but AS FAR regained control after the interval.

The winning goal arrived in the 68th minute through a moment of individual brilliance. Attacking midfielder Omar El Ouargui collected possession 25 yards out, skipped past two defenders, and lashed a left-footed strike into the far post, leaving Wydad goalkeeper Yassine Bounou with no chance. Wydad pushed forward in the closing minutes but could not breach a resolute AS FAR defence marshalled by captain Nabil Dirar.

The victory lifted AS FAR Rabat to 44 points, just two behind league leaders, while Wydad Casablanca remained on 38 points. For AS FAR, this derby win could prove pivotal in the title race with eight matches remaining.
