Oriente Petrolero 0-0 Nacional Potosi: Goalless in Santa Cruz
The Bolivian Primera Division served up another goalless draw as Oriente Petrolero hosted Nacional Potosi on 22 June 2026 at the Estadio Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera. Despite the fervent home support, Oriente Petrolero could not break down a stubborn Nacional Potosi defense that came to Santa Cruz with a clear game plan.
From the opening whistle, Oriente Petrolero dominated possession, controlling the tempo through midfielders Mauricio Cuéllar and Fernando Saucedo. Nacional Potosi, however, sat deep and relied on counter-attacks. The first half saw a handful of half-chances: Rodrigo Ramallo’s volley in the 28th minute went just over, while Potosi’s Ricardo Pedriel forced a low save from Oriente keeper Víctor Hugo in the 35th.
The second half was more open as Oriente pushed forward with intensity. Coach Pablo Escobar introduced striker Jahir Ávila in the 60th minute, and he nearly scored immediately, but his close-range effort was blocked by Nacional Potosi defender Luis Torrico. Potosi had a golden chance in the 78th minute when a mix-up in Oriente’s defense presented a tap-in opportunity, but Milton Méndez blasted it over the bar.
Neither side could find the net despite late pressure. The 0-0 draw leaves Oriente Petrolero in 8th place with 19 points, while Nacional Potosi move to 12th with 16. Both teams remain in striking distance of the top six, but the lack of goals will be a concern.
Notably, this was the third goalless draw in the Bolivian Primera Division on the same day, reflecting a league trend of defensive organization and tactical caution in mid-season fixtures.
