Sabah Baku Edge FK Kapaz Ganca 1-0 in Azerbaijan Premier League

Sabah Baku secured a narrow but vital 1-0 victory over FK Kapaz Ganca on May 8, 2026, in a tightly contested Azerbaijan Premier League clash at the Bank Respublika Arena. The only goal of the match came midway through the second half, handing the home side three crucial points in their push for a top-four finish.

The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Sabah Baku dominated possession but found the Kapaz defence well organised, marshalled by experienced centre-back Tural Guliyev. Kapaz, playing on the counter, threatened sporadically but could not test home goalkeeper Nijat Mehbaliyev seriously.

The breakthrough arrived in the 68th minute. A quick throw-in on the right flank found Ismayil Zulfugarov, whose low cross was turned home from close range by striker Rauf Aliyev. The goal sparked celebrations among the home supporters and forced Kapaz to push forward in search of an equaliser.

Despite late pressure from the visitors, Sabah Baku held firm. Kapaz’s best chance came in the 82nd minute when substitute Elvin Mammadov headed wide from a corner. The win lifts Sabah Baku into contention for European qualification places, while Kapaz remain in mid-table after a spirited but ultimately fruitless performance.
