USV Iasi edged a hard-fought Romanian Liga III contest against ACS KSE Targu Secuiesc, claiming a 2-1 victory on 29 August 2026. The win gives the Iasi-based side an important early-season boost, while the visitors returned home with only regrets after a spirited second-half comeback attempt fell short.

Match Overview

Playing on home turf, USV Iasi started brightly and took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes. A precise cross from the left found the head of an unmarked forward, who directed the ball beyond the visiting goalkeeper. The early goal settled the hosts, who controlled possession without creating a flurry of clear-cut chances. Targu Secuiesc, compact and disciplined, grew into the match but struggled to test the home defense before the interval.

Turning Point and Key Moments

USV Iasi doubled their advantage just after the hour mark with a well-executed set piece. A short corner routine created space for a low drive from the edge of the box, which took a slight deflection on its way into the net. That goal proved crucial, as ACS KSE Targu Secuiesc responded with renewed urgency. The visitors pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to finish calmly from a narrow angle.

The closing stages were tense, with Targu Secuiesc throwing bodies forward in search of an equalizer. USV Iasi, however, held firm, managing the match well and seeing out the result with a series of important defensive clearances.

Standout Players

• USV Iasi's set-piece delivery: The hosts showed they carry a genuine threat from dead-ball situations, and their second goal highlighted clever rehearsal.
• Home goalkeeper: Made two crucial saves in the final ten minutes, including a sharp stop from a deflected effort.
• Targu Secuiesc's center forward: The visitors' goal scorer was a constant outlet and caused problems with his physical presence.
