Cetate Suceava delivered a confident home performance, defeating CSM Satu Mare 2-0 in Romanian Liga II on 15 August 2026. The result gave the home fans plenty to cheer about and underlined the team’s ambition to be a factor in the second-tier promotion race this season.

Cetate control the opening exchanges

Playing in front of a supportive crowd, Cetate Suceava started brightly. Their midfield dominated possession from the outset, and they created the first meaningful chance of the match when a striker’s shot was tipped over the bar by the Satu Mare goalkeeper. The pressure continued to build, with the home team winning a series of corners and testing the visitors’ organisation.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half. A cleverly worked free-kick caught the Satu Mare defence off guard, and the Cetate captain arrived at the back post to head home from close range. It was a well-rehearsed move that demonstrated the team’s attention to detail on the training ground.

Second goal seals the win

CSM Satu Mare tried to respond after the interval, pushing more players forward in search of an equaliser. This opened up space for Cetate Suceava on the counter-attack, and they came close to doubling their lead on several occasions. The second goal eventually arrived in the 75th minute, when a rapid break down the left wing ended with a low cross being turned into the net from six yards out.

With a two-goal cushion, Cetate were comfortable in the closing stages. They kept their shape, denied Satu Mare any clear chances, and managed the game professionally to secure a clean sheet and three valuable points.

Liga II context

The victory moves Cetate Suceava up in the early Liga II standings, sending a message to the rest of the division that they intend to be competitive. CSM Satu Mare will look to regroup after this defeat, with their away form clearly an area that needs improvement. For the neutral observer, the match was an example of efficient, professional football from the home side.
