ONYX Levice edged past Komarno 87-83 in a hard-fought Slovenska Basketbalova Liga clash, surviving a tense final quarter to protect home advantage in a game that swung back and forth for the best part of forty minutes. The four-point margin flatters nobody: this was a contest decided in the closing three minutes, when Levice found the defensive stops their offence had been building towards all evening.

Match Overview

Played in front of a lively home crowd, the game followed a familiar pattern for two teams who know each other well. Levice opened with intent, pushing the tempo early and attacking the rim through their frontcourt, while Komarno settled into a patient half-court rhythm built around ball movement and mid-range shooting. Neither side managed a double-digit lead at any point, and the largest cushion of the first half barely lasted two possessions.

By the interval the scores were effectively level, and the third quarter developed into a trading of runs. Komarno briefly took control with a burst of three-point shooting, but Levice answered immediately with a 9-0 sequence sparked by transition baskets, turning the momentum back in their favour heading into the final period.

Key Moments

• Second-quarter surge: Levice turned a four-point deficit into a narrow lead with a quick flurry of fast-break points after forcing back-to-back Komarno turnovers.
• Third-quarter shootout: Komarno's perimeter shooting briefly put them in front, only for Levice to respond inside a minute and a half.
• Closing stretch: With the game tied inside the last four minutes, Levice converted key free throws and forced two contested late possessions to seal the result.

Tactical Story

Levice's win was built on the glass and at the free-throw line. They attacked the offensive boards aggressively, generating second-chance points that proved decisive in a game where both teams shot the ball at a similar clip. Defensively, they adjusted their pick-and-roll coverage in the second half, going over screens more aggressively to disrupt Komarno's pull-up shooters, who had been comfortable in the first twenty minutes.

Komarno will look back at a handful of empty possessions in the fourth quarter. Their half-court execution was patient and generally well organised, but when Levice raised the physicality, the visitors struggled to generate clean looks and settled for contested jumpers. Their transition defence also leaked points at critical moments, particularly just after made baskets.

Standout Performers

Levice's backcourt controlled the tempo in the decisive minutes, dictating pace and drawing fouls on drives. Their interior players did the unglamorous work, contesting shots and cleaning up the defensive glass. For Komarno, the perimeter shooting kept them in the contest and their guards created well off the dribble, but the supporting scoring dried up late when the game tightened.

Season Impact

The victory is a meaningful one in the Slovenska Basketbalova Liga table. Winning home games against direct rivals is the surest way to climb the standings, and Levice have now banked a result that could matter enormously when tiebreakers are calculated later in the campaign. For Komarno, it is a narrow defeat on the road rather than a damaging one — the performance showed enough to suggest they will be competitive in the return fixture.

Both teams now move on to the next round of fixtures with plenty to review. Levice will be pleased with their composure in a tight finish; Komarno will focus on late-game execution and rebounding, the two areas that ultimately separated the sides on the night.
