Herons Basket Montecatini secured an impressive 81-72 road victory over Dinamo Sassari in Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro Serie A2 on October 5, 2026, controlling the game from the second quarter onward.

Montecatini's balanced attack and disciplined defense proved too much for Sassari, who never found a consistent offensive rhythm in front of its home supporters. The nine-point margin reflected the visitors' steady control over the final three quarters.

Match Overview

Montecatini started strong, taking a 22-18 lead after the first quarter behind efficient half-court execution. The second quarter was the turning point: the Herons held Sassari to just 15 points while scoring 19 of their own, building a 41-33 halftime advantage. Sassari showed signs of life in the third, but Montecatini matched every run, taking a 62-53 lead into the final period and never allowing the deficit to shrink below seven points.

Key Moments

The decisive stretch came midway through the second quarter, when Montecatini reeled off an 11-2 run to turn a one-point game into a 34-24 lead. Sassari's offense stalled during that span, missing six consecutive field-goal attempts and committing three turnovers.

Sassari made one last push early in the fourth, cutting the lead to 64-57 on a fast-break dunk, but Montecatini answered with a 7-2 burst capped by a corner three that restored a double-digit cushion with five minutes left.

Tactical Story

Montecatini's defense was the story of the night, limiting Sassari to 38% shooting from the field and 5-of-24 from three-point range. The Herons switched aggressively on screens and forced Sassari into contested mid-range shots.

On offense, Montecatini shared the ball beautifully, finishing with 21 assists on 30 made baskets. The visitors also dominated the glass, out-rebounding Sassari 41-32, including 13 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points.

Standout Performers

Montecatini's point guard orchestrated the offense with 16 points and 9 assists, while its center recorded a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. The small forward added 15 points, including three three-pointers.

For Sassari, the shooting guard was the lone bright spot with 20 points, but he received little help. The starting frontcourt combined for just 18 points on 7-of-22 shooting, and the bench managed only 12 points.

Season Impact

The win is a significant confidence boost for Herons Basket Montecatini, proving it can win on the road against a historically strong club. For Dinamo Sassari, the defeat raises early-season questions about offensive consistency and perimeter shooting as the Serie A2 campaign progresses.
