Aquila Basket Trento 102 – 85 Virtus Bologna | Lega Basket Serie A – 23 May 2026
Aquila Basket Trento produced one of their most electrifying performances of the season, dismantling Virtus Bologna 102-85 at the PalaTrento. The dominant display, fueled by red-hot three-point shooting and suffocating transition defense, sent a clear message to the rest of the Lega Basket Serie A: Trento is a serious contender.
First-Half Onslaught
From the opening minutes, Trento's offense was unstoppable. They shot 62% from the field in the first quarter, building a 31-18 lead. Virtus Bologna, missing key forward Achille Polonara due to injury, looked disjointed on both ends. By halftime, the home side had extended the margin to 22 points (58-36), largely thanks to Davide Alviti, who scored 15 first-half points on 5-of-6 from three-point range.
Star Performers
- Aquila Basket Trento: Point guard Tomasz Gielo recorded a season-high 27 points (10-of-14 FG) and dished 8 assists. His backcourt partner Davide Alviti finished with 23 points, hitting 6 three-pointers. Center Paul Biligha added a double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds).
- Virtus Bologna: Guard Michele Ruzzier led the visitors with 18 points off the bench, but the starting unit combined for only 41 points. Captain Milos Teodosic struggled with foul trouble and finished with 9 points and 4 turnovers.
Virtus Never Threatens
Bologna attempted a comeback in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 14 points on a three-point play by Marco Belinelli. But Trento responded with a 14-4 run, punctuated by a thunderous dunk from Biligha, effectively sealing the game. Virtus's defense, usually a team strength, allowed 102 points – the most they have conceded all season.
What It Means
Trento improves to 22-7, staying within striking distance of league leaders AX Armani Exchange Milano. The win also solidifies home-court advantage in the playoffs. For Virtus Bologna (19-10), the loss drops them to fourth place, tied with Dinamo Sassari. With head-to-head tiebreakers now in play, every remaining game carries extra weight.
Both teams return to action this weekend: Trento visits Pesaro, while Virtus faces a must-win home game against Olimpia Milano.
